Alternative office celebrations to strengthen teamwork and build morale

As a new year begins, it is time to give yourself and your team members a bit of a break.

Big office parties might be off the table, but celebrations in small groups are still a great option.

Take a break with your colleagues and celebrate all you have achieved at one of these locations in the Raffles Place precinct.

Nalati Restaurant & Events (Republic Plaza)

This garden-themed restaurant with hanging planters decorating the ceiling is a visual feast.

For feasting at the table, order a grilled seafood platter with mussels, whole squid and prawns, or a meat platter with Iberico pork jowl, lamb rack and Wagyu ribs. The restaurant’s convivial atmosphere makes it a great environment for a friendly hangout with your work friends.

Pair your meal with Hoegaarden or Stella Artois on tap and enquire about booking the venue for a private function.

While its name and décor evoke South American jungles, this chain hails from Thailand. They source their single-origin coffee from Thai plantations. Café Amazon is where you and your colleagues can imagine you are at an afternoon getaway.

Besides latte, mocha and cappuccino, Café Amazon’s drinks include Thai-inspired creations like coconut Bai-Toey frappe and honey lime black coffee.

Desserts to go with your coffee include Thai milk tea affogato and coconut gelato with grilled honey toast.

Best of all, you are in no danger of having piranhas nip at your toes while enjoying your coffee.

Housed in the CapitaGreen building with its verdant façade, The Work Project also contains a roof garden for you to soak in the rare moments of the sun in this monsoon weather.

Named after the ancient Greek goddess of hunting, your hunt for a sophisticated office party location ends with Artemis Grill & Sky Bar. The restaurant serves Mediterranean-inspired cuisine – dishes like slow-cooked lamb collar, spinach and feta pie, and crispy fried artichokes are on the menu.

The rooftop establishment overlooks the Marina Bay skyline. At the outdoor terrace, you can sip cocktails around a 100-year-old olive tree with your colleagues. The venue juxtaposes nature with modernity. This is something that Artemis shares with CapitaGreen, the verdant tower that houses it.

If you feel like your team has become almost like a family, then head to Chao Shan for a shared meal.

Combining a home-cooked feel with the sophistication of restaurant cooking, steamed threadfin, braised goose and deep-fried chestnut prawns are some of the items on the menu.

And of course, it would not be a Teochew restaurant without ‘orh nee’ (sweet yam paste) for dessert. It is, by all accounts, as yummy as it is ‘yammy’.

Exit the overtly air-conditioned office and gather your work pals for some hotpot.

City Hot Pot provides individual hotpots for each diner. This provides added hygiene and means if your party disagrees over which soup base to pick, you are not in hot soup.

The 12 soup bases include bak kut teh, Korean kimchi soup, Sichuan spicy, fish soup with milk and chicken soup.
